College of Education and Human Sciences Emergency Scholarship Fund
NOTICE: The College of Education and Human Sciences Emergency Scholarship application will be closed starting on May 13, 2026. The application is expected to reopen on August 17, 2026.
The College of Education and Human Sciences (COEHS) Emergency Grant Scholarship provides financial assistance to admitted and actively enrolled COEHS students who experience an unforeseen catastrophic life event that results in significant financial hardship and adversely affects their ability to maintain academic progress.
Students are eligible to receive only one Emergency Grant Scholarship. The maximum award is $1,000; however, all awards are contingent upon the availability of funds.
Eligibility
To be considered for a COEHS Emergency Grant Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
- Be admitted to and actively enrolled in an academic program within the College of Education and Human Sciences.
- Have experienced a sudden, unforeseen, and catastrophic life event that has resulted in significant financial hardship and adversely affects their ability to maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- Be making satisfactory academic progress at the time of application and demonstrate the intent to continue their enrollment and academic progress.
Examples of Qualifying Circumstances
The following are examples of circumstances that may warrant consideration for an Emergency Grant Scholarship. This list is illustrative and is not intended to be exhaustive.
- Medical or health-related emergency.
- Major accident or other unforeseen emergency.
- Death of an immediate family member or other qualifying family emergency.
- Past-due housing expenses resulting in an imminent risk of eviction or homelessness.
- Financial hardship resulting from a natural disaster or other catastrophic event.
Meeting the eligibility requirements or experiencing one of the circumstances listed above does not guarantee the award of an Emergency Grant Scholarship. All applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the COEHS Scholarship Committee, and awards are contingent upon the availability of funding.
To avoid delays in the review process, please ensure your application is complete and includes all required documentation: a completed application, unofficial transcript, letter of support from a COEHS faculty member, and supporting materials.
Acceptable Documentation to provide for the application include the following:
- Medical bills, or a letter from a healthcare provider documenting a serious illness or injury
- Death certificate, obituary, or funeral expense documentation
- Employer termination letter, layoff notice, or unemployment benefits determination
- Insurance claims, repair estimates, or official reports related to a house fire, flood, or other natural disaster
- Police report, court documentation, or other official state or government documentations
- Eviction notice, foreclosure notice, or documentation of displacement due to an emergency
- Itemized receipts or invoices detailing unexpected emergency expenses

Application Process
- Submit a completed application with all required supporting documentation.
- Applications are reviewed within 2–3 business days of receiving a complete application.
- Applicants will be notified of the decision by email. Additional documentation may be requested if needed.
- Approved awards are disbursed via direct deposit within 5–7 business days after approval.
International Status
International students are eligible for The College of Education and Human Sciences Emergency Scholarship. However, please note that all awards are subject to foreign taxation of approximately 30%. All awards to international students will be less than the stated amount at the time of application approval, so please plan accordingly.
