This course will afford students opportunities to learn about actors such as philanthropic organizations and think tanks who drive the education legislationand policy discourses that directly impact schools, universities, educators, students, and other community members. We will look at policy theory and several case studies, including the Yazzie/Martinez case here in New Mexico. Through their study, students will collaborate on a policy brief related to an education issue related to their research interests.

Are you interested in gaining research skills to understand individual experience in sociocultural context? In this course, we will read about, discuss, and apply key qualitative research methods for studying human development, preparing you to conduct your own qualitative studies. The key focus of the course will be on learning how to conduct semi-structured interviews and analyze interview data using (reflexive) thematic analysis. We will also discuss mixed methods, giving you the tools to integrate qualitative and quantitative approaches. Additionally, we will explore the underlying assumptions of all research methods, critically examining diverse epistemological perspectives and their implications for our work and the populations we study.

Explore digital games and virtual learning environments to enhance instruction, learning, and assessment, while delving into theory, research, and insights from scholars on game-based learning in educational contexts. No gaming experience is required.
