Exercise Science 1st year Ph.D. Student Marissa Ramirez Receives the GSSI Young Scholar Award
The HESS department congratulates Marissa Ramirez, a first-year Ph.D. student, on receiving the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) Young Scholar Award. This national award recognizes graduate students conducting impactful research in the fields of exercise science and sports nutrition. She is mentored by Dr. Fabiano Amorim, and the study investigated the effects of caffeine ingestion on gastrointestinal symptoms and gut permeability after physical work in a hot environment. Marissa will present her work at the upcoming American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, at the end of May.
