COEHS Faculty Share Research and Innovation at UNM Health Sciences Education and IPE Day

Several COEHS faculty and leaders participated in UNM Health Sciences Education and IPE Day on February 6, a tuition-free forum that convened UNM educators and learners to share research and promising practices in leadership, innovation, and interprofessional education. COEHS contributions reflected the College’s commitment to research-informed teaching and collaborative practice that serves communities across New Mexico.
COEHS presentations included “It’s Showtime! Concussion Management Strategies for Clinicians Working with Performing Artists,” presented by Allyssa Memmini, PhD, LAT, ATC (Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences); “Connected Care: An Interprofessional Education Approach to Strengthen Rural Maternal and Child Health,” presented by Diana Gonzales-Pacheco, CDN, RDN (Department of Individual, Family, and Community Education); and a one-year follow-up investigation on guided quality improvement for clinical documentation in athletic training, presented by Sara Nottingham, EdD, LAT, ATC (Athletic Training, Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences).
Senior Associate Dean Jay Parkes facilitated the breakout session “Creating MCQs is a Pain: Can GenAI Help?,” which examined emerging research on generative AI-supported item writing and emphasized the continued role of expert review in developing higher-order assessments.
COEHS also acknowledges Kevin Schroeder, Senior Lecturer III in COEHS HESS and Director of the UNM Health Sciences Interprofessional Education (IPE) Center, for his leadership in advancing interprofessional partnerships and learning opportunities across UNM.
