The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individuals to work on a study or research project. The grantees meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country and through direct interactions the grantee learns others’ viewpoints and beliefs and cooperate in a mutual learning process. Martin Watkins is a Ph.D. student in Educational Linguistics who has received a Fulbright Research Award to Italy. Specifically, his research project includes an ethnographic study about the experiences of Italian Sign Language interpreters in a dual language primary school setting in Italy. His fieldwork begins in September 2021 and runs through March 2022. He would like to thank the faculty of Educational Linguistics, and those of the wider LLSS and Linguistics departments, for all of their support. He would particularly like to thank his UNM advisors and mentors Dr. Barbara Shaffer, Dr. Tryphenia Peele-Eady and Dr. Lois Meyer, as well as Dr. Joseph Hill (RIT/NTID), and Miriam Grottanelli de Santi (Siena School for Liberal Arts). Congratulations, Martin!!
