NM Summit for Excellence in Education and Equity

The Summit is Going Virtual!

Due to the rising number of COVID cases in the state of New Mexico, and ongoing news about the Omicron variant, we have made the hard decision to shift the New Mexico Summit for Excellence in Education and Equity from Face-to-Face to virtual. We believe it fundamentally important that during a summit about education that we do everything we can to protect the health and welfare of our state’s educational leaders. As we move closer to the event date, we will send you a zoom invitation for both days of the Summit. Although it would have been wonderful to see and meet with you all in person during this important event, we hope you will still be able to find the time to meet with us to discuss the important issues facing education in New Mexico and help us to consider how we can support the state in moving forward.

January 10th and 11th 2022

The New Mexico Summit for Excellence in Education and Equity will convene educational leaders and stakeholders from across the state to develop a data driven, practical, and concrete framework for improving educational outcomes. We aim to produce a framework to support New Mexico’s children, parents, and educators to scale up successful educational initiatives, identifying the what, the who, and the how to move the state forward in the broad areas of education.

Areas

  • Early Childhood
  • Special Education
  • Practices for Reading Literacy
  • Recruiting, Preparing, and Retaining Teachers
  • Culturally Relevant Pedagogy
  • Leadership and Implementation

Registration

The Summit is by invitation only, and there is no fee for attending.

If you would like a walkthrough for connecting to Zoom, download our Zoom How-To guide.

We have attached to this message a ready-made guide of Zoom How-To’s if you are not as familiar.  Please feel free to consult this guide for any questions that you may have. If you run into any issues during the Summit, please feel free to send a message to bfragua@unm.edu and kgoodric@unm.edu.  We will try to support you to the best of our abilities.

As you join the Summit, please ensure that you enter the meeting with your first and last name displayed. As we are using the waiting room, this will ensure that we are able to accept you into the zoom meeting, to avoid any zoom-bombing or security threats. If you need to change your name in your zoom template, you can do this by clicking the “participant” menu, going to your zoom, and choosing the “renaming” function. We also ask that when you join the meeting, please do through a computer or tablet, as opposed to a phone. If you call in the meeting, your phone number will display as your “name” and our technology support team will have no way of chatting with you to get to know who you are.

Introductory Survey

Further, as we prepare for next week's summit, we'd like to paint a portrait of the participants. Please take a couple of moments before Monday to respond to this introductory survey:

Responses will be added as they come in, so feel free to check in with the survey to see the results!

Conference Tools

We will be using primarily two technology tools in addition to ZOOM for the summit: PollEverywhere and Jamboard

A couple of notes about PollEverywhere in particular:

  • You can access PollEverywhere from any browser as well as from an app on your phone or tablet.
  • The address we'll use throughout the event is  PollEv.com/educationalexcellenceandequitysummit143. It will be activating and deactivating as we change activities, so there may be times when the link appears not to work.
  • Your Screen Name -- When you use PollEverywhere, you will be asked for a Screen Name.  Please use your first and last name. Think of it as speaking during the meeting. There may be anonymous activities, and you'll know what they are. The anonymity will be done by the software -- no need for you to change anything.

If you'd like to learn more about PollEverywhere and Jamboard or play with them a bit before the summit, here are some resources for you:

Please be sure to take the introductory survey soon, and we cannot wait to work with you next Monday and Tuesday!
