Sport Administration
Established in 1979, The UNM graduate program in Sport Administration has a proud tradition of preparing students to provide leadership in positions such as high school athletic directors, college athletic administrators, directors of amateur and professional sport organizations, and university professors. UNM’s Sport Administration alumni hold positions within our local community and across the country. Examples of positions program alumni have gone on to fill include:
- Executive Director of New York State Public High School Athletic Association
- Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Georgetown University
- Director of Inclusion at the NCAA
- Head Coach of the Lobo women’s tennis team
- Head Coach of the Lobo football team
- Director of Community Relations at Albuquerque Isotopes Baseball Club
Our Mission
Our mission is to prepare graduate students for a wide range of sport-related positions within organizations that are typically educational or professional in nature and scope. We strive to provide a superior educational experience to students by supporting our teaching with research in areas of sport marketing, risk management, leadership, collegiate athletics, and youth sport development coaching.
In addition we provide service and program visibility through community involvement and representation in regional and national organizations.
In congruence with this mission we provide educational opportunities and experiences in the following areas: a) interscholastic and intercollegiate athletics: b) amateur and professional sport: c) public and private sport organizations and d) the academic study of sport.
